Film Curriculum

The Film Department takes a holistic approach to education with equal emphasis on the personal, intellectual, technical, and aesthetic development of its students, emboldening them as independent thinkers, makers, media artists, and industry professionals. The Department provides historical and contemporary context as it develops practical skills and conceptual strengths, producing active contributors who forge new territory in our diverse, mediated cultural landscape.

The Film Department will be a cross-disciplinary center for innovative experiential learning in fiction, non-fiction, and experimental moving image works. It will offer students a rich foundation in the technical and theoretical aspects of the social practice of filmmaking, and the space to develop their visual lexicon as engaged artists and makers in the global economy of images.

Students completing the Film program at CCS will be able to:

1. Tell compelling, diverse stories that engage, challenge, and resonate with viewers.
2. Communicate via clear and effective writing, innovative sound design, and purposeful moving images.
3. Conceptualize real world and fantastic scenarios grounded in lived experience, ethical research methods, and relentless imagination.
4. Demonstrate high-level performance thinking utilizing design principles, technical skills, and mindful perseverance.
5. Collaborate with a global network of filmmakers, artists, and industry professionals with respect, equity, and business acumen.
