Michigan native and Detroit-based special effects makeup artist, Paula Kulchar, earned a BA in Entertainment Arts from the College for Creative Studies. She also attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, where she majored in Industrial Design with a focus on special effects makeup, stop-motion animation, and puppet fabrication. She is an independent animator, puppet creator, mask maker, and sculptor. Her puppet creations include foam puppets, lantern puppets, stop-motion characters, and wooden puppets.
Professional Experience
Paula worked as a sculptor in a costume shop, where she designed and created character mascots for various businesses. She also designed and built large-scale props for ballet stage productions, and her artwork involves many processes, from sculpting and mold making to airbrushing. She has worked on several independent films and commercials.
