Working in the happiest place on Earth has proven to be just that for Interior Design student Karlee Szczesniak. During the Fall semester, Karlee received a coveted internship with Walt Disney Resorts as a Walt Disney Imagineering Interior Design Intern.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to experience and assist in creating Disney magic through design,” Szczesniak said.

The Walt Disney Imagineering is the creative engine that designs and builds all Disney theme parks, resorts, attractions and cruise ships worldwide. It also oversees the creative aspects of Disney games, merchandise product development and publishing businesses – encompassing over 100 different disciplines.

“Since starting my journey in interior design, I have been told countless times to always consider the overall narrative of your space and what emotions you want to provoke in your audience,” Szczesniak said. “This concept was reinforced from my very first day where I witnessed how Disney interior designers tailor their work to provoke specific emotions in their end users.”

During her time in Florida, Szczesniak was placed on the resort’s design team – helping with the creation and renovation of lobbies, lounges, restaurants, rooms and much more at Walt Disney World resorts. She assisted three senior designers, each of whom had their own design projects.

Sandra Olave, Chair of the Interior Design department finds Szczesniak’s passion for creativity impressive. “It is truly inspiring to witness the talent that Karlee possesses as a student. I believe the Disney internship opportunity is an essential step towards Karlee’s professional development – providing valuable insights, connections, and experiences that will help her navigate her career path successfully.”

For Szczesniak, her time with Walt Disney Imagineering is already prompting her to think of her future in the design industry.

“My time with Disney Imagineering has taught me no detail is too small; every aspect plays a pivotal role in creating the magic Disney brings to its guests. I still can’t believe I am fortunate enough to have been given this amazing opportunity to work for a company that recognizes and embraces the importance of design and unforgettable experiences. My aspiration is to incorporate the idea of curiosity and magic into all of my future designs, creating a sense of happiness for all who experience it, regardless of age or their background.”
