Professional Experience

Janelle Hall (nee Effiwatt) is a poet, playwright, and educator from Tucson. She studied Creative Writing and Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of Arizona before earning an MFA in Poetry from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. There she worked as an adjunct instructor at the University of Iowa and taught Poetry at the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio. After moving to Michigan, Janelle worked as a Children’s Librarian before returning to education, teaching and mentoring K-12 students in and around Detroit.

She is the co-founder of River Rouge Productions; an independent book publisher, creative label, and multimedia archive based in Detroit.
