Emily MacGriff
Adjunct Faculty and Expedition Leader
BA International Political Science, University of Alabama; MFA Writing, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago
Emily is a writer and bookmaker focused on the degradation of memory and identity in space and time, particularly how an individual experience of the same interacts with the destruction of our planet and its natural resources. She works primarily as a poet but has also completed two novels, a handful of short stories, series of plays and is in the thick of memoir drafting. Her writing pulls largely from experiences enjoyed while working aboard expedition vessels as a marine biologist, logistics manager and wilderness guide/naturalist in the polar regions, South Pacific and British Isles.
Professional Experience
Emily spent the greater part of the last decade living and working in some of the most vulnerable and remote parts of the world. These years informed her passion for climate science and action which led to an operations role with the Michigan League of
Conservation Voters and business development initiatives with Sphera, a tech company focused on environmental stewardship. Outside of her work with the College for Creative Studies, Emily owns and operates the MacGriff Writing Studio.
