Professional Experience

Stefan Cieply is an adjunct instructor in the Department of Liberal Arts where he teaches media and visual culture studies.

Cieply’s primary research specialty is the history of American consumer culture, with secondary interests in graphic design, material culture, modernist furniture, and contemporary mass media. His current research is on the Herman Miller furniture company and the emergence of the “new middle class” in the post-WWII era.

His research has been published in Gender and History and has been presented at numerous professional conferences. In addition to CCS, Cieply has taught at the University of Virginia, the Corcoran College of Art and Design, and the University of Michigan, among others.
