Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Stephen J. Murphy III, will serve as CCS’s esteemed speaker for this year’s Constitution Day event on Thursday, September 17, 2026. As an institution that receives federal funding, CCS values the opportunity to annually honor the signing of the U.S. Constitution by engaging our community in meaningful civic dialogue.

In Judge Murphy’s position on the federal bench, he will offer his perspective on the current issues affecting American democracy and the evolving roles of state and federal constitutions. He will speak to how these legal frameworks intersect with civic engagement and speak specifically to creativity and the Federal courts’ interpretation of the United States Constitution.

The event is open to the entire CCS community, as well as to the public. Light refreshments will be served.  Please plan to attend if you are able.
