DAD-110 Advertising Design & Typography

Projects explore typographic and compositional styles that create effective advertising for a variety of media and channels. Students develop design skills relative to specific advertising and

communication goals. Students learn the layout process from thumbnails and refined layouts to comprehensives produced on the computer. Students are introduced to digital software, file management and output, prepress and on press production. Students design and assemble a portfolio that is used for reviews and as a foundation for their professional career.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Establish visual hierarchies and apply various compositions in the message building.
  • Develop the ability to generate ideas and produce them as production ready comps.
  • Apply processes from thumbnail stage through digital print package.
  • Recognize, explain and defend choices made within projects.
  • Utilize and apply rules of typography.
