Tryst Mallette’s practice focuses on personal experiences made shared sensations. She investigates individuals’ relationships with themselves and their environments, including exploring the physical and mental connections between a body and memory. She has been photographing analog and digital for over 11 years, with an emphasis on studio lighting and formal portraiture. Her work emphasizes collaboration, whether it be social practice — focusing on the connection between the artist and the subject, or immersive installation, utilizing projection and the mirror, encouraging the audience to sit with feelings of familiarity.
Professional Experience
Tryst received her MFA (photography) in May 2023 from Cranbrook Academy of Art. As an undergraduate, she attended Wayne State University where she studied Photography and Art History. Tryst has exhibited her work in multiple group shows in Detroit and Muskegon. She had a solo show, “Skin & Scales” in August of 2021 at Tom Gibbs Studio in Ferndale, MI.
