Robert has a keen interest in automotive design as it applies to futurism; the study of pushing the automotive form as a functional dynamic object, not just mere styling. Advancing design through a futuristic vision; looking at aerodynamics, robotics, advanced materials and structures. Along with an innate passion for drawing, he also has a fascination in world affairs, economics, and history. Robert collects rare literature, stamps, and enjoys building model kits and BMX bicycles on his spare time.

Professional Experience

Robert Bauer is an artist, designer, and illustrator.  In 1991 Robert attended Art Center College of Design studying Transportation Design. Along with sponsored programs creating concepts for Honda and Mazda Robert also interned at Ford Motor Company receiving a design position prior to his graduation. For his senior project at Art Center he designed and built a running, street legal roadster. Robert graduated Art Center in 1994 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree with Honors and was hired by Ford Design where he worked for two years in the Advanced Design Studio, Truck Studio and Mustang Studio. In 1995 he created the Synergy 2010 concept vehicle which showcased a very unconventional design architecture that combined fluid organic forms with geometric functional elements and graphics.

From 1996 to 2022 Robert worked for Nissan Design and was responsible for numerous production and concept vehicles. While at Nissan he gained experience operating internationally, working in Japan, the U.S., Mexico and Brazil. During his time in automotive design Robert taught numerous classes in art and design and is now an adjunct faculty member teaching Drawing I, Rapid Concept in the Foundations department at CCS.
