Matthew Van Meter is a journalist and author. His research and reporting center on issues of criminal justice, the history of American law, the Civil Rights Movement, and the recent politics and culture of the former Soviet Union.
Professional Experience
Mr. Van Meter’s work has appeared in The Atlantic, Forbes, Longreads, The Awl, Friends Journal, Russia Profile, and others. He is currently on a book about the 1960s legal battle between a black teenager and the most powerful man in Louisiana, due out in 2019 from Little, Brown. In addition to teaching at CCS, he works at Washtenaw Community College and is a facilitator at Detroit’s Shakespeare in Prison program.
