Honor a lost loved one, recognize someone special or commemorate a milestone by making a special gift in their name.
How do I make a tribute gift?
There are three ways to make a gift:
Please include the name of the person you are honoring with your gift and the name and address of anyone you would like notified.
Will you let the family or my honoree know about this gift?
If you include the name and address of the person you would like notified, we will gratefully share that you have made a memorial or honor gift. We do not share the gift amount.
What will my gift support? Can I select the area that I would like my gift to impact?
You may designate your gift to the existing fund that is most meaningful to you, the occasion or the honoree. Occasionally a specific fund for memorial gifts will be designated by the family. In these cases, unless otherwise noted by the donor, gifts received will be used for the fund selected by the family.
May I create a named fund or endowment to honor a special person?
You can designate your gift more specifically by creating a fund the others can give to. Endowments are a wonderful way to honor someone and leave a permanent legacy. Endowments can be created with a commitment of at least $25,000 (payable over 5 years) and will generate an annual impact that recognizes your honoree in perpetuity.
There is also an opportunity to create a new fund or annual scholarship with a minimum commitment of $4,500 payable over 3 years.
Gifts from family and friends can be combined and used to create a new fund, however, creating a new fund will require a signatory who will be responsible for the commitment.
For more information on creating a new fund please contact [email protected] 313.664.7984.
How do I mention CCS in an obituary or recommend that gifts be made to CCS in lieu of flowers?
We suggest that you use text similar to this:
The family requests that memorial gifts be made in support of the College for Creative Studies (optional –insert name of existing fund). Checks can be mailed to the College for Creative Studies c/o Institutional Advancement, 201 East Kirby, Detroit, MI 48202 or they can be made online at https://www.ccsdetroit.edu/donate. Please indicate that the gift is in memory of [name] by writing a memo on your check or checking the “in memory of” box when making a gift online.
Feel free to contact our office at 313.664.7865 to let us know of your loved ones passing and any gifts that will be made in their memory.

Foundation
CCS welcomes opportunities to partner with private foundations that share our vision and support our students and programs.
For more information, please contact the Director of Foundation Relations at [email protected] or 313.664.7461.
An endowment gift to CCS is a meaningful way to honor someone and leave a permanent legacy. Endowed funds can be established with a gift commitment of at least $25,000 (payable over a maximum of five years), which will generate funds to support an annual scholarship award in perpetuity.
Gifts from family and friends can be combined and used to create a new fund; the endowed fund requires a memorandum of agreement with a signatory responsible for the commitment.
Endowed Scholarships
Established with a suggested minimum gift of $25,000; the principal value which is never spent and exists in perpetuity. After the minimum gift value is received, a corresponding spending account is then created, and this account supports award distribution in the name of the Endowed Scholarship. Awards would begin to be awarded between 6 and 18 months after the minimum gift value has been received by the College. Donors can direct their endowed scholarship to benefit a particular department or minimum GPA, etc. The principal is never spent and exists in perpetuity.
For more information on creating an endowment or exploring an annual fund please contact the Director of Campaigns and Major Gifts at [email protected] or 313.664.7984.
Publicly traded securities and mutual funds that have appreciated in value are some of the most popular gifts to CCS.
With a gift of stock, you can contribute a larger amount than what might have been possible in cash, avoid capital gains taxes, and receive a tax deduction for your gift. Plus, you can contribute directly to the annual fund or specify an area that you would like the proceeds to support.
CCS benefits by selling the stock without paying taxes on the gain.

CCS is fortunate to have donors who support the College in many ways. No matter how you may choose to give, your generosity helps our students now and into the future. Here are some ways you could choose:
Combination of Cash and Assets
By blending cash and assets, your gift will be magnified. For example, a gift of $25,000 in cash and $25,000 through a will enables you to make a $50,000 gift while preserving your asset until later.
Appreciated Stocks
When you give stocks that have increased in value, you can count the value of those stocks as charitable deductions. Additionally, you avoid the capital gains tax you would have incurred by cashing the stocks. It’s easy to do by electronic transfer.
Giving Through Your Estate Plans
One of the simplest ways to give assets is by a will/through your estate plan. You can give a specific dollar amount or percentage of your estate. This link will take you to specific language your attorney or advisor will need to assure your intentions: [hotlink to Giving by a Will Language]
Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs)
Many Americans have one or more IRAs, 401(k), or other retirement plans. You can give from these assets, name CCS as a full or partial beneficiary. Your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from an IRA can be given tax-free up to $100,000 per year.
Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)
If you have a Donor Advised Fund, it’s simple to transfer funds to CCS. You can also name CCS as a full or partial beneficiary of a DAF.
Charitable Annuities and Trusts
There are other gift planning options such as Charitable Gift Annuities and Charitable Remainder Trusts. With these arrangements, you can save on taxes and possibly gain a guaranteed, lifetime income.
IRA Rollover
If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can make a tax-efficient gift from your retirement plan to the area of CCS you’d most like to support.
While most annual required minimum distributions (RMDs) from individual retirement accounts (IRAs) are taxable, you can donate up to $100,000 to CCS through a qualified charitable distribution, which is also known as an IRA charitable rollover.
To make a gift from your IRA:
Contact your IRA custodian and ask the representative to mail a check in the amount you desire (up to $100,000), payable to College for Creative Studies.
Mail to:
