Adjunct Faculty – Graduate Studies: Graduate Written Thesis

POSITION DESCRIPTION

CCS offers graduate degrees in Color and Materials Design, Transportation Design, and User Experience (UX) Design. The Graduate Studies department is seeking Adjunct Instructors for the Written Thesis class, taught across all three programs, for Fall 2023.

The Course:
The Written Thesis is a self-directed, academically rigorous and fully referenced 8000-10,000 words document providing a critical appraisal of primary and secondary research sources, and theoretical discussion and debate on the overarching context of the Thesis Project. It runs concurrently with the Thesis Project part 1 in semester 1.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Working directly with the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, adjunct duties include:

  • Preparation of teaching materials
  • In-person teaching through lectures, seminars and one-to-one meetings
  • Feedback and grading

Adjunct instructors will also be expected to attend occasional meetings and personal professional development (pedagogy) sessions.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Candidates will have:

  • Teaching experience at the college- or graduate-level.
  • A terminal degree (PhD, MPhil or MFA) is preferred
  • An initial Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree will be considered for candidates with significant relevant experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team in accordance with CCS’s values


WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office and college campus environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position, use a computer and other office equipment, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and virtually.  Frequent interaction with others, including staff, faculty, students and third parties is required.  The employee may occasionally be required to move files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including from low and high places.  The ability to move around within the office and between buildings on campus, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between Ford Campus site to the Taubman Center site are required.  CCS will make reasonable accommodations that will allow individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
