Minors
Many students look to diversify their skills and also complement their major.
Many times a minor is the perfect way to do that. Minors are 15 credits. Most studio departments offer a minor to students from other departments. Students should consult the department chair of the department they wish to minor in or an Academic Advisor for specific information.Â

Craft & Material Studies Digital Fabrication
The Digital Fabrication minor emphasizes the partnership of traditional materials and digital technologies on the path to innovation. It consists of a series of 5 classes in which students learn to design and model objects through computer-aided design that can be rendered to photorealistic accuracy. Students then learn to output their models to tools like laser cutters, CNC machines, 3D printers to create physical objects. Students will discover how various materials perform in the digital fabrication context, learning the various processes, tooling, and tolerances to translate digital ideas to physical form.
Students create projects laser cutting interlocking pieces to create innovative woven structures, digitally milling graphite molds for glass casting multiples, 3D printing directly with clay, creating resin 3D prints that can be cast in metal.
In the Craft and Material Studies department, we encourage critical thinking through materials, developing an expansive and experimental practice, and building on traditional l processes and techniques. We believe that digital fabrication builds on these goals, giving students in all disciplines a skill set that can be applied across materials and processes.
